Greetings BH3 and welcome to your sunny weather window. Long may it last. Keep up the good work, remain hydrated, shaded and oiled up. You never know when you might need it! Probably Monday night…(fingers crossed).
This week’s trail is from:
The Turnpike, Woodstock Road, Yarnton, OX5 1PJ
Meet at 7pm for the off.
Just when you thought it was safe to get back on the trail…
Just when you thought world order had been restored…
…when there was actual flour on the route…
…when there were Hares with well-planned routes…
Step forward Sniffer and Down There! Oh Yes – back once again… like the renegade master…
The Ballad of Sniffer and Down There
In a village where hedgerows are thick with despair, Walk two noble leaders: Sniffer and Down There. One’s wise and crafty, with a glint in his eye, The other’s a blur as she sprints right on by.
Sniffer, the sage, with a nose like a hound, can sniff out a shortcut that loops back around. He’ll say, “This way’s quicker!” with a wink and a grin, then chuckle as the hash get lost in a spin.
Down There, full of pep, with a map upside-down, will charge through a thicket, then trip on a crown of nettles and brambles and questionable mud— Yet still she’ll emerge with a smile and a thud.
Together they lead with a style quite unique: Through cow fields and bogs and a stream (almost) every week. They’ll re-route on footpaths, they’ll cut short on bends, But somehow, they always get back to their friends.
“Turn left!” shouts Down There. “No, right!” Sniffer cries. The group splits in two under grey British skies. One half meets a bull, the other a stile— But all’s well that ends at the pub in a while.
So here’s to the Hares, confused yet adored, With compasses spinning and maps unexplored. For though they may wander and rarely know where— They always find joy, and they always find beer.

PS – I’m in Newcastle with work, so I’ll miss out on the fun. I’ll be on the lookout for any Hashers that take a wrong turn and end up running past my hotel… that would be quite a long false trail – but I know we’ve had worse!
