The Plough, 9 High Street, Brackley, NN13 7DW

Meet at 11am for the off.

Happy New Year BH3!

What better way to kick-start your new hash year, than with non-other than our very own Thrifty G and the Plough at Brackley.

Some say, his flour was bulk bought in the great January flour sale of 2023. Others have it on good authority, that he goes around and collects the flour from other hash trails – for re-use. He doesn’t always wait until that trail is done before he collects. Few have ever seen him with a bag of flour in his hand, but many have walked or r*n the line he’s laid…

On this occasion and being our first hash of 2026, we go-lightly on our commentary of this most humble hare, and thank him most kindly for the trail he sets before us. There’s plenty of time for a comment or two in the other direction.

Speaking of direction, don’t expect any from the trail. You are (collectively) on your own. There may be flour, there may be a trail, there may very well be flour dobs that connect together to form an on-on, there will almost certainly be times when they may not. Correction: there will almost certainly be times when you scream out loud – did Thrifty lay a trail? [Ans: Yes – he did – just say ‘thank you’ and keep running. Not that way though – the other way – no the other – other way…] That’s right, no wrong, no wait ? Whoa what the….?

You’ve got it – welcome to the land of Thrifty G and the make believe fairy tale trail world of imagination…

What will be real – is the beer, the warmth and the good cheer on tap (literally) at the Plough. We’ve ventured here before and from what I recall, they have solid wood furniture in the beer terrace. They also have a commanding view of the comings and goings of Brackley Town. A lovely corner posting with full view of a traffic light junction.

Rumour has it that Thrifty sometimes kicks back on the gin and enjoys gayley watching the cars stop and start at the Red, Amber Green machines. Such power, such control, such random acts of dynamic movement. [It all sounds quite appealing actually – from my desk right now]

Anyways, welcome one, welcome all, come and join in the fun. Maybe bring a friend. You know the one, the one with the new year resolution. To get out and be more active, to get their shoes dirty, to drink more, to fall in shiggy more, to get effing cold and lose the feeling in their chins. Bring’em one, bring em’all. The long and the short and the tall… We’ll show them all a good time.

That’s right, hold tight, we’ll take you on a spin and show you round the Thrifty Gaffer world…

What’s not to like?
