The Three Horseshoes, 18 Main Road, Long Hanborough, Witney, Oxon, OX29 8BE.
Meet at 11am for the off.
We are likely to have a ‘returner’ to the Hash this weekend. Our old friend Jack Frost or ‘Crispy’ to his Hasher friends. He/She is rolling out the crusty carpet and helping you to avoid the shiggy. He/She might also make spotting flour somewhat interesting.
Talking of spotting flour, our trusty hares this week are fresh back from their ‘Hare Masterclass’ otherwise known as the last hash they went on – and are ready and raring to go! We salute them and thank them for going the extra mile (maybe?) and laying us a fab trail for this weekend.
The pub (ssshhh! – don’t let them know that they were a plan B) – in fact – what am I talking about – I don’t even know what the other pub/venue was called now – see Thrifty’s facebook post for divine information (I still think he makes a good priest when I see his pic) and the details.
Now, The Three Horseshoes is listed on the CAMRA website, and if the names down and you’re in – then you’re in for a lovely treat. It has beer, it has outside seating, it does not take reservations and it has a building with windows and presumable warmth and heat inside – perhaps not so welcoming for ‘Crispy’ – but you can’t have everything. It does mention a ‘real fire’ on the website.
Did you know… a pub with the name Three Horseshoes, usually indicated that a Blacksmith or Farrier lived nearby, in fact, the 3 horseshoes was part of the coat of arms (back in 1356) for The Worshipful Company of Farriers. Theory has it – that if a horse rider lost a shoe, then they would have no option but to stop at the nearest coaching in on their journey to re-shoe and therefore the horses at the coaching in – had Three Horseshoes. Amazing. I love this stuff.
Presumably, that’s almost what happened to Thrifty in the New Forest, and the area of outstanding natural beauty known as ‘One Trainer bog’? I just don’t know…
The RAs have been sitting on their hot water bottles, drinking their warm milk and sleeping with their trainers inside the bottom of their beds – making sure everything is a warm as can be for a Sunday. Maybe this will melt their ice-cold gaze and soften their stance on mishaps and shenanigans… but unlikely. As ever, time and beer will tell…
