Trail #2594 – Butchers Arms, Main Street, Fringford, Bicester, OX27 8EB, with Dogloss as your Hare.

Meet at 11am for the off!

‘There’s no one quite like us – we have all the bases covered’ is the headline on the website for the Butcher’s Arms pub in Fringford.  Now there’s a claim to be investigated!

Tripadvisor has the 2024 updated view: A countryside treasure, with helpful friendly staff.

The pub boasts 17th and 18th century build, so it should stand up to the Thunderstorms, if they join us if they join us? At least the beer won’t be wet on its own 😊

Who put the ‘Fring’ in Fringford?

Who put the ‘Flour’ in the flowerpot?

Who put the beer in the barrel?

Who knows – who knows!!!

… And that pretty much sums up what we can expect of the Hare and their trail a la Fringford….

Who knows what we’ll get.  Sometimes, they can be pretty long, sometimes they can be pretty.

And what do we really know of Dogloss Bader ?

His better-known cousin, Douglas Bader, was an ace fighter pilot in the Second World War. He was also given the honour of leading the first Battle of Britain flypast on 15 September 1945.

While Douglas was out flying over Frankfurt, Dogloss was dropping flour bombs on Fringford. So many parallels and yet so different. In either case, both show daring, charm and off-the-scale bravery – in the face of adversity.

Take Fringford green for example. It’s so green that I’ve heard DULUX set their ‘grass green’ colour by it as standard. It takes a very brave Hare – almost super-human – to attempt to place flour around that green – and live to tell the tale – live to watch the pack go off down the falses.

Bravo Dogloss ‘old chap’ – we salute you and your chalk bag!

As ever, Thrifty and Maraschino will be on hand to present the ‘tea and medals’ for those brave souls who show extraordinary valour on our sorties, or those that simply just trip up (literally) but somehow still make it home in one (or maybe three) piece(s). Let’s take to the skies and live the dream… and if it’s cloudy and we’re grounded… let’s drink a plenty 😊
