The hash trail this week starts and ends from:
Kirtlington Golf Club, Kirtlington, Kidlington, OXON, OX5 3JY.
TORCHES will be needed – through twilight to see you safely to the end of the trail this week – and as the nights draw in to bid a fond farewell to our Monday evening slot of adventures and mark the switchover to those Sunday morning mayhems from the 8 September onwards.
Reined-On was talking about her hare duties on last week’s trail… and of the need to walk the route and then lay the route. Let’s hope she makes it back in time to join us at the start too!
This will be the 5th time setting off from the Golf Club (last in May 2023), and our 12th time from Kirtlington – so it must be good! Either that or the beer at the Golf Club is very excellent (which I am sure it is).
The website lists 6 reasons for visiting KGC (I thought this read KGB first time) – but no – it stands for Kirtlington Golf Club (phew!). Reasons 1 to 4 are to do with something called golf, but 5 talks about great food/facilities and 6 talks about the employment of a herd of Hebridean Sheep to help keep the greens in trim. I’m sold. This is my kind of club (well, points 5 and 6 at any rate – and that’s good enough!)
Fun facts about Kirtlington
?Who knew?
Kirtlington, is home to its very own ‘Kirtlington Hedgehog Street’ – as featured in The Guardian (whoop whoop!). This is a network of gaps in garden boundaries that connect over 60 gardens, including the village pub, school and church – opening up around 16 acres of garden and grassland for hedgehogs [and Hashers?].
[Amazing – I just love this stuff!]
… and I’ll stop there … Hedgehog Street here we come! Torches at the ready, lots of LED and High Vis (oh Yes!!!) … and a swing or two of the clubs and a flock of sheep!
Our RAs will not know which way to look or r*n…
